Misanthropic Detective Sargeant Bruce Robertson is beset with addictions and scheming against his colleagues. As it follows his investigation of a racially motivated murder, Welshâ€s narrative exposes Robertsonâ€s often repulsive behaviour and his longing for his ex-wife, as well as the increasing mental deterioration that afflicts him.
