Practically Perfect In Every Way

In 1964, Walt Disney Studios released a feature-length film based on P.L. Travers’s critically acclaimed book series Mary Poppins.

The story begins when two children, Jane and Michael Banks (Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber), are faced with the arrival of a new nanny. Luckily for them, their new nanny is Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews). After descending from the sky with her umbrella, she takes the two children under her wing. They embark on a series of adventures through London with Mary’s friend Bert (Dick Van Dyke), a cockney performer and chimney sweep.

A sequel film was released in 2018, titled Mary Poppins Returns, with Emily Blunt taking on the starring role in place of Andrews. In this film, a now-adult Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) is a widower with three children. Struggling to repay his loans and threatened with his house being repossessed, Michael must find a missing certificate to prove that his father left him valuable shares many years earlier. Just as all seems lost, his childhood nanny appears from the clouds to save the day.
