
As technology improved and new forms of warfare became available, the Second World War quickly developed into more than just a foot war fought on the battlefields of Europe between allied and enemy troops. The technological advancements meant that, for the first time, major aerial battles could now take place. In order to inflict damage quickly and decisively against enemy air bases and buildings, the aeroplane quickly became a pivotal piece of machinery that would ultimately decide the outcome of the war.
