Providing a fascinating yet disturbing account of one man's desire for power, this programme tells the story of Benito Mussolini's totalitarian dictatorship of Italy and the alliance with Adolf Hitler that led to the death of 55 million people. Based on descriptions of events at the time, letters, diary entries, secret memos and telephone taps, this is a truly remarkable record of the man who ultimately became Hitler's pawn. Rare archival colour footage keeps Il Duce's ruthless rule of violence, intimidation and fear very much alive.
