Detested by his fellow passengers, mysterious American financier Ratchett (Richard Widmark) is found murdered aboard the Orient Express. With the train stalled by a snowdrift between Istanbul and Paris, celebrated Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (Albert Finney) is called upon to solve the crime before the train reaches its destination.
